Why did you start your business?

I started my consulting business because I was young and thought I could work half the year and travel half the year. (This was not an accurate prediction.) I also thought that if I didn’t try it then, I’d never have the chance (perhaps accurate?).

Not exactly an amazing origin story.

In my time helping giant companies with their sales and marketing, I struggled with my own business development efforts. But I thought, hey, I’m getting paid to hang out with some of the top sales and marketing people on the planet– let me just take notes and do what they’re doing. This just made things worse.

I loved helping clients with sales and marketing, but hated actually doing it for my own business.

Gradually, I learned to do things in a way that felt less icky, more like a doctor and less like a sales rep.

I also realized that there were other folks like me who provided great results for clients, but struggled with all the issues I did, and often went down a similar path, laid out by the sales and marketing industrial complex, designed for big businesses.

That’s when I set my mission to help folks who were at that earlier point in the journey, so they can help more people, without the decade-long struggle I had…

That’s my origin story (more details here). It gives people a sense for why I do what I do. (I think this story is so important that there’s a field for it on the Mission & Positioning Screen in Mimiran, and suggestions about how to use it.) Also, it’s something referral partners can actually remember much better than tech specs…

What’s your origin story? Why did you start your business?
