What do you do?

“What do you do?”, is one of the most common questions people ask Americans, especially entrepreneurs. What do you say when someone asks?

I attend a lot of networking events where seasoned entrepreneurs act like they have never heard this question before and haven’t thought too much about how to answer it.

While you want to be able to massage your message for different audiences, you should have a basic introduction for your business that’s short, descriptive, and memorable. Make sure your response describes not only what you do, but who you *ideally* do it for. This is the foundation of making yourself referable. A good description sticks in people’s heads and comes to mind when they meet your ideal prospect.

If you need to work on your answer, try the Mimiran Mission and Positioning tool (no credit card or email required).

Let me know what you come up with. If you get stuck, go to the “Client Success Story” tab and ask your favorite client(s) for help filling in the blank. No need for AI (although that can help with brainstorming).
