Oracle announced that it will buy ProfitLogic, a retail price optimization software vendor for undisclosed terms. The addition of ProfitLogic will provide an interesting edge as no other large suite vendor offers price optimization capabilities. The buy comes on the heals of Oracle’s $700M purchase of Retek, which provides an array of retail software solutions.
Technical integration of different product platforms can undermine the promise of many software mergers, but Oracle’s relatively simple pricing capability actually counts in their favor here, as it should ease integration. Tight integration with an enterprise application suite could also improve the quality of data and therefore the quality of recommendations coming from ProfitLogic.
