Differentiation
Pricing power comes from differential value. If you don't offer more value to someone than your competitor, you can't charge more than that competitor. Here's a 1 slide animated PowerPoint with a great example of differentiating a "commodity." (Click on the image to open or save the file.)
If you can differentiate a product like this, there's a way to differentiate what you do, as well. For many sellers of products, differentiation comes in the service level, not the product itself.
